COURSE CURRICULUM

The Veterinary Technician program spans four semesters, providing students with comprehensive theoretical knowledge and practical experience in animal health care. In the first semester, students build foundational skills through courses such as Veterinary Comparative Anatomy and Physiology, Behaviour of Animals, Clinical Care of Animals I, Clinical Lab Procedures and Mathematics, Medical Clinics I, and Professional Practice and Etymology, alongside communication skills and a general education course. The second semester advances clinical expertise with Parasitology, Clinical Care of Animals II, Intermediate Clinical Lab Procedures, Medical Clinics II, Pharmacology and Calculations, and Introductory Radiography, preparing students for hands-on work with a variety of species. In the third semester, students focus on specialized clinical care through courses like Clinical Care of Animals III, Exotic, Lab and Non-Domestic Animal Studies, Large and Small Mammal Studies, Medical Clinics III: Dentistry, Advanced Radiography, Veterinary Anaesthesia and Surgical Techniques, and Introduction to Clinical Field Placement, while continuing general education studies. The fourth and final semester emphasizes advanced clinical competence and professional readiness with Clinical Care of Animals IV, Veterinary Clinical Laboratory Procedures IV, Genetics and Bioethics, Medical Clinics IV and Dentistry, Nutrition of Animals, Surgery II, and a culminating Field Placement. This structured progression ensures graduates acquire the skills, knowledge, and applied experience required to excel as competent, compassionate, and licensed Registered Veterinary Technicians in Ontario.
