COURSE CURRICULUM

The Real Property Administration (Assessment & Appraisal) program is structured over four semesters to provide students with a comprehensive education in property assessment, appraisal, and property tax administration. In the first semester, students build foundational skills in communication, spreadsheet analysis, real estate appraisal, mortgage underwriting, and microeconomics, supplemented by a general education course. The second semester deepens knowledge in Canadian real property law, real estate ethics, municipal tax administration, advanced real estate investment analysis, and ethical guidelines for assessors, again complemented by general education. In the third semester, students advance their expertise through courses in advanced property assessment, construction and cost techniques, statistical and computer applications in valuation, and assessment appeals, while developing public administration communication skills and participating in Field Placement I to gain practical, hands-on experience. The fourth semester focuses on professional and applied learning through Field Placement II, spreadsheet analysis, alternative dispute resolution, professional issues in the assessment industry, residential data collection, appeals in practice, and income property assessment. Across all semesters, students are trained to use industry-standard technology and techniques while developing critical thinking, analytical, and professional skills. Graduates emerge prepared for dynamic careers in property appraisal, assessment administration, and property taxation, equipped to work independently and collaboratively in the property and real estate sectors.
