COURSE CURRICULUM

The Police Foundations program offers a structured, four-semester curriculum designed to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills required for careers in law enforcement, public safety, and community protection. In the first semester, students develop foundational skills in communication, criminal law, criminal justice, interviewing techniques, career preparation, fitness leadership, and an understanding of diversity and Indigenous peoples in Canada, combining online, hybrid, and in-person learning. The second semester builds on this foundation with courses in arrest, search and use of force, criminal code offences, security and crime prevention, crisis intervention and defensive tactics, criminology, and introductory psychology, emphasizing both theoretical knowledge and applied skill development. In the third semester, students explore specialized topics such as forensic crime scene investigation, youth in conflict with the law, ethical reasoning, crime prevention through community mobilization, and mental health issues, along with general education courses to enhance critical thinking and professional competencies. The final semester focuses on advanced law enforcement skills, including traffic enforcement investigations, provincial and federal statutes, evidence and interviewing, career preparation and leadership, and applied topics in public safety, preparing students for real-world challenges. Throughout the program, flexible delivery options and hands-on exercises ensure graduates are well-prepared for diverse roles in policing, corrections, investigations, and broader public safety environments.
