COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mechanical Technician – CNC Programming program spans two years and integrates theoretical knowledge with extensive hands-on experience in modern manufacturing, focusing on computer numerical control (CNC) and Computer Assisted Manufacturing (CAM). In the first semester, students build foundational skills through courses in blueprint reading, CNC operations, machining theory, mathematics, and shop practices, alongside communication courses to enhance professional skills. The second semester advances technical proficiency with computer-assisted machining, technical mathematics, tool design, and continued shop experience, supported by work term preparation and general education courses. Students then engage in a Work-Integrated Learning term, applying their knowledge in real-world industrial settings, gaining valuable workplace experience. In the third semester, learning intensifies with advanced computer-assisted machining, CNC manual programming, and technical mathematics, combined with technical communications and general education to reinforce critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The final semester emphasizes mastery through advanced CAM, tool setup, technical project work, and professional options, including additive manufacturing, mechanical design and drawing, jig and fixture design, quality assurance using coordinate measuring machines, and SolidWorks proficiency. Graduates leave the program well-prepared for careers as machinists, tool and die makers, or mold makers in diverse sectors such as aerospace, automotive, building products, energy, and natural resources, equipped with both the technical and professional skills to excel in modern, technology-driven manufacturing environments.
