COURSE CURRICULUM

The Library & Information Technician program is structured over four semesters to provide students with a comprehensive blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills for careers in library and information services. In the first semester, students build foundational skills through courses such as Introduction to Computer Applications, Cataloguing I, Circulation, Searching I, and Introducing Libraries, alongside effective communication training. The second semester advances these competencies with Cataloguing II, Acquiring Library Materials I, Reference Resources I, Searching II, Library Promotions, and Placement and Work Skills, allowing students to apply classroom learning in practical settings. The third semester focuses on advanced technical and professional skills, including Cataloguing III, Acquiring Library Materials II, Reference Resources II, Library Software, Reference Processes, and a Field Placement, providing hands-on experience in real library environments. In the fourth semester, students refine their expertise through Cataloguing IV, Searching III, Library Programs, Human Relations in Libraries, and Professional Issues in Libraries, complemented by a second Field Placement that integrates their cumulative learning in professional contexts. Throughout the program, students develop proficiency in cataloguing, classification, digital and print resource management, reference services, library software, and customer engagement, preparing them to effectively support library operations, assist patrons, and adapt to evolving technologies in public, academic, and special library settings, ensuring readiness for a successful career in the library and information sector.
