COURSE CURRICULUM

This illustrative arts program provides a comprehensive curriculum designed to develop both artistic skill and professional expertise over four semesters. Students begin with foundational courses in illustrative media, painting, digital tools, applied illustration history, color theory, life drawing, and story structure, building technical proficiency and a strong understanding of visual storytelling. In the second semester, the focus expands to printmaking, interactive illustration, iconography, concept development, visual development, children’s illustration, and digital painting, while students also complete a general education course, reinforcing critical thinking and contextual knowledge. The third semester emphasizes sculpture, editorial illustration, sequential narration, advanced visual development, and life drawing, alongside practical business training in small business tools, preparing students to navigate the freelance and entrepreneurial aspects of illustration. In the final semester, students consolidate their learning through specialization studio work, professional practices, applied life drawing, portfolio development, and business courses in entrepreneurial strategies, social media, and website development, ensuring they are career-ready. Throughout the program, students refine their artistic techniques, develop a unique creative voice, and acquire the skills necessary to succeed in various illustration fields, including children’s books, comics, editorial work, and concept art for film and games.
