COURSE CURRICULUM

Across four semesters, this program offers a structured and flexible curriculum designed to build strong foundations in fire protection while allowing students to pursue firefighting or fire systems specializations. Semester 1 focuses on essential principles through courses such as Fire Analytics I, Communicating Across Contexts, Fire Protection Fundamentals, Fire Sprinkler Systems – Applied I, and Building Construction and the Effects of Fire. In Semester 2, students advance into Electricity and Electronics for Fire Systems, Fire Dynamics and Ignition Sources, the Ontario Fire Code, and one General Education course. Semester 3 deepens technical knowledge through Alternative Fire Suppression Systems, Fire Alarm Systems – Design, the Ontario Building Code – Fire Protection I, and another General Education elective. Semester 4 includes Fire Investigation, Fire Safety Planning, Hazardous Materials Operations, Technical Communications, and one additional General Education course. Learners may specialize further in Firefighter or Technician streams. The Firefighter Specialization includes courses in firefighter wellness, fire service introduction, technical rescue, and wildland fire suppression, while the Technician Specialization emphasizes CAD, advanced sprinkler systems, fire and life safety education, alarm troubleshooting, and project management. Additional firefighter-focused courses like NFPA 1031 Level I Fire Inspector and FPPA inspections prepare students for industry roles aligned with their career goals.
