COURSE CURRICULUM

Seneca’s Environmental Landscape Management diploma program offers a comprehensive two-year curriculum that combines practical fieldwork, theoretical knowledge, and professional skill development to prepare students for careers in sustainable landscaping and ecological stewardship. In the first semester, students build foundational skills through courses in machinery operation and maintenance, turf management, horticulture, and field ecology, alongside communication skills and general education. The second semester emphasizes environmental services management, greenhouse operations, horticulture II, and terrestrial ecosystem studies, complemented by work term preparation for students opting for the co-op experience, which provides hands-on industry exposure. The work-integrated learning term allows students to apply their skills in real-world settings, gaining professional experience and networking opportunities. In the third semester, students expand their expertise in arboriculture, landscape construction, aquatic ecosystems, business and project management, and computer-aided design, while developing a professional portfolio to showcase their work. The fourth and final semester focuses on advanced topics including sustainable landscape design, technologies of landscape design, integrated pest management, urban ecology, business management, and natural heritage monitoring and assessment, equipping graduates with a comprehensive understanding of both ecological and business aspects of environmental landscape management. Throughout the program, students cultivate a blend of technical, ecological, and managerial skills that meet the growing demand for knowledgeable, skilled, and environmentally conscious professionals in the landscaping industry.
