COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering Technician diploma program at Seneca Polytechnic is structured across four semesters with an optional co-op work term, providing a strong balance of theoretical learning and practical, hands-on experience. In Semester 1, students begin with foundational courses such as CAD Fundamentals (BEA101), Engineering Problems and Statics (ENS141), Environmental Science (EVS141), and Mathematics 100 (MTA100), along with a communications course (COM101 or COM111). Semester 2 builds on this base with Civil CAD Drafting II (CRX342), Interpersonal Skills in the Engineering Workplace (IPS255), Mathematics II (MTA002), Materials (MTR241), Strength of Materials (STM241), and Surveying I (SVC001), emphasizing technical development and communication in engineering environments. Semester 3 introduces applied industry knowledge through Building Inspection (BIX442), Geotechniques (GTQ342), Steel and Concrete Building Practice (SCP342), and Surveying II (SVC002), alongside Technical Communications (TEC400) and Work Term Preparation (WTP100). A general education elective complements the technical curriculum. For students opting into the work-integrated learning pathway, the co-op term (CVL331) allows hands-on field experience across hybrid, online, or in-person formats. Semester 4 focuses on advanced topics such as Building Information Modelling with Revit – Wood Construction (BRW442), Construction Techniques (CTE442), Geographic Information Systems (GIS443), Highway Technology (HWT443), and Municipal Practices (MPP442), supported by a final general education course. The program’s flexible delivery options across multiple terms and its inclusion of experiential learning ensures graduates are ready to enter the workforce or transition into further study with a robust skill set in drafting, surveying, materials testing, and construction technologies.
