COURSE CURRICULUM

Diploma program in property and casualty (general) insurance is structured to provide students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to succeed in Canada’s insurance industry. In the first semester, students build a strong foundation in business administration, insurance principles, communication, mathematics, and sustainable business practices, ensuring they are prepared for more specialized insurance studies. The second semester focuses on core insurance topics, including property insurance, automobile insurance, marketing, accounting, and customer service, alongside preparation for the work-integrated learning term, which allows students to gain practical, hands-on experience in a real-world insurance environment. During the co-op work term, students apply their learning in brokerage, underwriting, and claims, gaining valuable industry exposure and professional insight. In the third semester, courses such as insurance against liability, underwriting essentials, business economics, business communication, and business computer applications deepen analytical, technical, and decision-making skills. The final semester emphasizes professional issues in insurance, fraud prevention, loss adjusting, essential skills for brokers and agents, and Canadian business law, preparing graduates for the regulatory, ethical, and operational challenges of the industry. Throughout the program, students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills, equipping them to enter the insurance workforce confidently and pursue further professional designations through the Insurance Institute of Canada, enhancing career growth and long-term success.
