COURSE CURRICULUM

The Aviation Operations diploma program at Seneca Polytechnic spans four semesters and includes an optional co-op term, offering a comprehensive education in airside and flight operations. In Semester 1, students begin with foundational courses such as Aviation Computer Applications (ACA121), Aeronautics I (AER121), Aviation Management I (AVM121), and Aviation Studies I – History and Standards (AVS121), all delivered in flexible formats. They also take Communicating Across Contexts (COM101 or COM111) and a math course (MTH120 or MTH121), laying the groundwork for technical and communication skills. Semester 2 shifts to more specialized topics, including Flight Dispatch I (FDP221), Flight Planning I (FLP221), Meteorology (MET321), Mathematics (MTH221), and Safety Management Systems I (SMS221), with one general education elective. All courses in this semester are offered online or in flexible formats. In Semester 3, students focus on operational knowledge with courses such as Airside Operations (ASO321), Aviation Management II (AVM321), Flight Planning and Dispatch (FPD321), Health and Safety (HAS321), Technical Communications (TEC400), and Work Term Preparation (WTP100), alongside a general education elective. The optional co-op term (AVO331) is available in hybrid, online, or in-person formats during the fall. Semester 4 emphasizes airline and emergency procedures with Airline Operations (ALO421), Emergency Planning and Preparedness (EPP421), Aviation Security (SEC421), Safety Management Systems II (SMS421), and Transport Logistics (TPL421), along with a final general education course. This well-structured program builds the knowledge and technical expertise required for careers in flight dispatch, airport and airline operations, and safety management, while also preparing students for Transport Canada Dispatcher licence exams.
