COURSE CURRICULUM

Seneca’s two-year Accounting and Payroll diploma program is structured to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of accounting principles, payroll management, human resources practices, and related technology applications, preparing graduates for careers in business and finance. In the first semester, students develop foundational knowledge through courses such as Accounting Basics I, Introduction to Business Administration, Communicating Across Contexts, Mathematics of Business and Finance, and Introduction to Sustainable Business, building the essential skills needed for professional practice. The second semester deepens expertise with Accounting Basics II, Payroll Compliance Legislation, Introduction to Human Resources Management, Organizational Behaviour, and Systems Studies I, while also integrating a general education course to enhance critical thinking and communication skills. In the third semester, students explore Taxation, PC Applications and Accounting Software, Payroll Fundamentals I, Business Communication for the Digital Workplace, and Design and Administration of Compensation Plans, along with another general education course to strengthen applied learning. The fourth semester focuses on Managerial Accounting, Payroll Fundamentals II, Call Centre Operations in Accounting and Payroll, and a Payroll Accounting and Technology Practicum, culminating in either a Work-Integrated Learning term through APP441 or Career Planning via CAP500. Throughout the program, students gain practical experience, technological proficiency, and industry-relevant skills, including report preparation, compliance with legislation, and hands-on payroll and accounting management, ensuring readiness for the workforce.
