COURSE CURRICULUM

The Legal Office Administration program is designed to equip students with the specialized skills required for administrative roles within legal environments. In the first semester, students gain foundational knowledge in business communications, business math applications, office procedures, and document production tailored for legal settings, alongside proficiency in email and calendaring software, computer presentation software, and an understanding of the Canadian legal system through Law and the Citizen. Effective communication is emphasized through courses such as Communicating Across Contexts, ensuring students can interact professionally in legal workplaces. In the second semester, the focus shifts to legal-specific skills, including legal document production, introduction to legal procedures, litigation procedures, spreadsheet software, and transcription techniques, complemented by general education courses to enhance analytical and problem-solving abilities. The third semester integrates practical experience and advanced legal knowledge, offering career and professional development, specialized legal procedures in corporate, wills, estates, family, and real estate law, legal transcription, and a legal field placement that allows students to apply classroom knowledge in real-world legal settings. Graduates of this program emerge proficient in legal documentation, office procedures, transcription, software applications, and professional communication, ready to support lawyers, paralegals, and other legal professionals, contributing efficiently to the operations of law firms, corporate legal departments, and other legal institutions.
