COURSE CURRICULUM

The Office Administration – Health Services program is structured over three semesters to provide students with comprehensive skills for administrative roles in healthcare settings. In the first semester, students develop foundational knowledge in business communications, business math applications, medical terminology, office procedures, and document production, alongside proficiency in email and calendaring software, ensuring they are equipped to handle day-to-day administrative tasks efficiently. Effective communication is emphasized through courses such as Communicating Across Contexts, fostering clear and professional interaction in clinical environments. The second semester builds on these skills, focusing on intermediate and specialized applications, including advanced document production, medical office procedures, transcription techniques, computer presentation software, and further medical terminology. Students also engage in general education courses to enhance their critical thinking and professional versatility. In the third semester, emphasis shifts toward career and professional development, advanced document production, medical health billing, medical transcription, spreadsheet software, and hands-on experience through either medical field placement or office simulations, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings. By completing this program, graduates are proficient in scheduling, task coordination, transcription, billing, software applications, and communication, preparing them to support healthcare professionals, manage patient information, and contribute effectively to the smooth operation of hospitals, clinics, and other medical facilities, meeting the dynamic needs of the healthcare industry.
