COURSE CURRICULUM

The accelerated Library & Information Technician program spans four intensive semesters and is designed for students with prior education who wish to complete their diploma in a condensed 12-month format. The first and second semesters focus on foundational skills, including computer applications, cataloguing, circulation, reference resources, library promotions, and information searching, delivered through a mix of online and in-person courses to provide both flexibility and hands-on learning. Students learn the principles of library operations and develop the ability to manage, organize, and provide access to a variety of library materials effectively. In the third semester, students apply their knowledge through field placements and practical courses in advanced cataloguing, acquiring library materials, reference processes, and the use of specialized library software, ensuring they gain real-world experience and workplace readiness. The fourth semester emphasizes professional development, including a second field placement, advanced cataloguing, library programming, human relations in libraries, and exploring professional issues in the field, preparing students for supervisory responsibilities and effective service delivery. By the end of the program, graduates are equipped to deliver comprehensive library services, manage resources efficiently, utilize industry-specific software, and engage with patrons effectively, making them highly competent and employable in public, academic, and special library settings.
