COURSE CURRICULUM

The Independent Songwriting & Performance program spans two semesters and is structured to provide students with a comprehensive blend of creative, technical, and professional training essential for a career in the music industry. In the first semester, students develop foundational skills in songwriting, lyric writing, vocal performance, major instrument proficiency, studio preparation, music publishing, music theory, and ear training, while also participating in master classes and live sound instruction. Courses are delivered through a combination of in-person and online formats, allowing for both hands-on practice and theoretical learning. The second semester builds on this foundation, advancing students’ abilities in performance, major instrument mastery, vocal skills, studio preparation, music theory, ear training, and musical collaboration. The program also introduces real-world applications through courses on touring, providing insight into live performance logistics and professional music practices. The culminating component is the Major Project Mentoring course, which offers personalized guidance as students complete and showcase a comprehensive music project, synthesizing their creative, technical, and business skills. Throughout the program, students acquire industry-relevant knowledge, including music publishing, business practices, and collaboration strategies, preparing them to confidently pursue independent music careers, live performance opportunities, or further studies in contemporary music fields.
