COURSE CURRICULUM

The Art & Design Foundations program offers a structured two-semester curriculum that develops both fundamental and advanced creative skills. In the first semester, students take core courses such as Figure Studio I, Colour Studio, Design I, Visual Culture, Drawing I and Professional Practices I, all delivered in person to provide hands-on learning and direct engagement with instructors. These courses build foundational abilities in observational drawing, colour application, design principles and art analysis, while also introducing students to professional expectations in the creative industry. Communication skills are further strengthened through the Communicating Across Contexts course, available in hybrid, online or in-person formats. The second semester expands on the knowledge gained earlier, shifting the focus toward story arts and visual development. Courses such as Sketchbook, Figure for Story, Design for Story and Drawing for Story emphasize dynamic character creation, narrative-driven design and visual storytelling. Digital Photo introduces essential technical skills in photography to support artistic exploration and portfolio development. Professional Practices II continues preparing students for academic and professional pathways by guiding them in showcasing their work effectively. Together, these courses create a cohesive learning experience that strengthens artistic proficiency, creativity and readiness for advanced programs in art and design.
