COURSE CURRICULUM

The General Arts Program (GAP) at Seneca Polytechnic spans two semesters and provides a flexible academic foundation for students exploring future educational or career paths. In Semester 1, students take five core courses: Current Issues in Canada (CAN149), Communicating Across Contexts or its enriched version (COM101 or COM111), Understanding Science and Technology (NAT108), Applied Psychology of Learning and Careers (PSY355), and Introduction to Social Sciences (SOC122). These courses are offered in various formats including online, in-person, and hybrid, allowing students to customize their learning experience. The first semester focuses on developing essential academic and personal skills such as critical thinking, communication, and self-awareness related to career planning. In Semester 2, students continue with two additional core courses, The Digital World – Issues and Trends (CUL145) and Big Ideas in Philosophy (PHL185), while also choosing three General Education electives and three Professional Options that align with their interests and career goals. Professional Options include Accounting Basics I (ACC120), available in flexible, online, hybrid, and in-person formats, and Marketing I (MRK106), offered in person. This semester provides a blend of academic and practical knowledge, helping students explore potential fields while earning transferable credits. GAP is ideal for students seeking direction, a fresh start, or re-entry into postsecondary studies, offering both structure and choice in a supportive environment.
