COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Computer Science program is structured over six semesters plus a mandatory work-integrated learning term, with a focus on technical expertise, inclusion, and experiential learning. Semester 1 includes foundational courses in programming (PRG101), databases (DBS101), Unix (OPS106), problem solving (PBS101), math (MTH130), and diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEI101), all delivered in person during Winter and Fall. Semester 2 continues with writing strategies (ENG106), discrete math (MTH230), networking (NTF201), object-oriented programming (PRG210), and systems analysis (SYS210), primarily in Winter and Summer. Semester 3, offered in Fall only, introduces diversity in computing (DEI301), data structures (DSA301), calculus (MTH330), system design (SYS310), and web development (WEB310), with varied delivery modes. Semester 4 offers hybrid and in-person courses like business writing (BTC440), computer architecture (CAO401), cybersecurity (SEC401), user interface design (UDI401), and advanced web development (WEB401), alongside one Liberal Studies course. Semester 5 focuses on accessibility tools (DEI501), research (REA501), software security (SEC501), statistics (STA501), and work term prep (WTP200), plus a second Liberal Studies elective. The Co-op work term (BCS771) takes place in Winter only, with flexible formats. Semester 6 includes courses in cloud computing (CLO601), a capstone project (CPT601), law and ethics (ETH601), a third Liberal Studies course, and a professional option selected from topics like Python, social engineering, or open-source development.
