COURSE CURRICULUM

Seneca’s four-year Honours Bachelor of Software Development program provides students with a comprehensive education in software engineering, programming, and system design, preparing graduates for careers in the dynamic technology sector. The curriculum emphasizes foundational and advanced technical skills, including programming in C and C++, database design and advanced database technologies, web programming principles and frameworks, system analysis and design, data communications, and software project management. Students also explore operating systems, mathematics and statistics for developers, user interface and mobile application design, information security, human-computer interaction, and cloud-based web development. The program includes a mandatory work-integrated learning component, allowing students to gain practical experience through two co-op terms, applying theoretical knowledge in real-world software development environments. In addition to technical competencies, students develop strong communication, professional, and project management skills, with courses in business requirements analysis, technical writing, and presentation skills. The curriculum also offers professional options, enabling students to tailor their learning to specialized areas such as AI, computer vision, game development, open-source software, mobile robotics, cross-platform app development, and cybersecurity. By integrating theory, applied skills, and industry engagement, this program equips graduates with the expertise, problem-solving ability, and adaptability required to excel as software developers, systems analysts, and technology leaders in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
