COURSE CURRICULUM

The Honours Bachelor of Biotechnology program spans four years, providing students with comprehensive theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for careers as biological technologists, research and development associates, microbiology quality control technologists, and related roles. In the first two years, students build a strong foundation in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and introductory biotechnology methods while developing essential research, data analysis, and computer skills. Courses such as Human Biology, Microbiology, Cell Physiology, Molecular Biology and Genetics, and Analytical Chemistry equip students with the scientific knowledge required to understand complex biological systems and laboratory techniques. Hands-on laboratory experience is integrated throughout the program, including Introductory and Integrated Methods in Biotechnology, and Advanced Techniques, ensuring students gain practical competency with cutting-edge instrumentation and experimental procedures. In the upper years, students focus on specialized areas such as Tissue Culture, Immunology, Virology, Biotechnological Regulations and Quality, Advanced Microbiology, Molecular Biotechnology, and Biopharmaceuticals. The program emphasizes industry preparedness through two Work-Integrated Learning terms and two capstone projects that simulate real-world research, methodology, and commercialization processes, allowing students to apply their knowledge collaboratively with peers, faculty, and industry partners. Alongside technical skills, students enhance critical thinking, problem-solving, project management, and communication abilities, ensuring they are fully prepared for successful careers in biotechnology, research, and laboratory innovation.
