COURSE CURRICULUM

This advanced diploma program offers a comprehensive pathway for students to develop technical, creative, and professional skills necessary for a career in graphic and communications design. In Semester 1, students build foundational skills through courses in communication, software training, typography, colour and design, design thinking, and drawing. Semester 2 advances their knowledge with graphic design, software training, typography, design history, photography and video, and design thinking, complemented by a General Education course. Semester 3 emphasizes applied learning through graphic design II, software training III, typography III, design production, web software I, and business communication for the digital workplace, alongside a General Education course. In Semester 4, students refine their expertise with courses in graphic design III, branding, information design, web software II, interactive design I, and marketing strategies, supported by another General Education course. Semester 5 focuses on advanced design practice with graphic design IV, marketing design, interactive design II, and portfolio preparation to showcase student work. Semester 6 culminates in professional readiness with a field placement or in-studio practicum, graphic design V, current and future design trends, professional practices, and business of design. Across six semesters, the program integrates hands-on learning, software proficiency, design theory, and professional development, preparing graduates to create innovative design solutions and enter the communications industry with a polished portfolio and real-world experience.
