COURSE CURRICULUM

Biotechnology – Research Technologist advanced diploma program is structured over six semesters, blending foundational science courses, specialized biotechnology studies, and practical work-integrated learning experiences to prepare students for careers in life sciences research. In the first semester, students build essential knowledge in biology, chemistry, mathematics, science survival skills, and communication, forming a strong scientific and analytical foundation. Semester two advances these core skills with further studies in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and computer applications, alongside a general education course. By semester three, students focus on biochemistry, microbiology, organic chemistry, and biotechniques, coupled with effective technical writing and preparation for work-integrated learning. Semester four introduces analytical instrumentation, physics, statistics, and advanced biotechniques, continuing to develop technical and laboratory expertise. Semesters five and six emphasize applied biotechnology through courses in bioinformatics, molecular genetics, immunology, tissue culture, virology, biopharmaceuticals, and food microbiology, integrated with optional professional studies and work terms to provide hands-on industry experience. Throughout the program, students acquire practical skills in performing precise assays, laboratory techniques, data management, and quality control, while applying the scientific method rigorously. This combination of theoretical knowledge, laboratory proficiency, and professional experience equips graduates to work effectively as research technologists, supporting innovation and research across biotechnology, pharmaceutical, clinical, and food science sectors.
