COURSE CURRICULUM

The three-year Instrumentation Engineering Technology program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic is structured to provide a progressive blend of theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and industry experience across five academic semesters and three cooperative work terms. In Year 1, students build a foundation in electronics, instrumentation practices, mathematics, physics, and basic instrument measurement, supported by extensive lab work and technology seminars. Semester 2 advances into digital electronics, instrumentation safety, industrial documentation, final control elements, and differential calculus, complemented by workplace communication skills. Following the first co-op work term, Year 2 continues with Chemistry 2, automation circuits, instrument control, industrial computer applications, integral calculus, and advanced instrument measurement, reinforced through a second co-op placement. Semester 4 introduces industrial data communications, distributed control systems, project management, advanced mathematics, and analyzers, followed by a third cooperative work term that provides real-world industry exposure. In Year 3, Semester 5, students focus on advanced automation circuits, industrial networks, instrument control, analyzers, statistics, applied research, diversity, equity, and inclusivity, and a capstone project that integrates their learning. Throughout the program, students gain hands-on experience with modern instrumentation and control systems, developing skills in system troubleshooting, optimization, and safety compliance, leaving graduates well-prepared for careers in instrumentation engineering technology with a strong combination of theoretical knowledge and applied industry experience.
