COURSE CURRICULUM

The Electrical Engineering Technology diploma at Saskatchewan Polytechnic is a three-year program combining five academic semesters with three co-operative work terms, designed to provide students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in electrical systems, energy management, and industrial applications. In Year 1, students build foundational skills in computer-aided drafting, basic electricity and lab work, mathematics for engineering technologies, engineering physics, safety and code regulations, statistics, workplace communication, and technology seminars. Semester 2 expands into semi-conductor electronics, direct and alternating current machines and labs, digital logic circuits, differential calculus, and diversity, equity, and inclusivity, followed by the first co-operative work term. Year 2 develops specialized knowledge through courses in industrial machine controls, power transmission and distribution, industrial power electronics, alternating current machines, instrumentation, and associated labs, complemented by industry engagement and a second co-op term. Semester 4 covers computer programming, SCADA systems, transformers, energy resource management, advanced mathematics, project management, and technical communication, preceding the third co-op term. In Year 3, students focus on control systems, electrical systems design, industrial power electronics, power system protection, renewable energy systems, applied research, and a capstone project, along with associated labs, consolidating their technical expertise. The program emphasizes problem-solving, hands-on learning, and applied projects, preparing graduates for dynamic careers in electrical engineering technology, energy management, and industrial automation.
