Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s Media Production diploma is a two-year program that blends theory and hands-on training to prepare students for careers in film, television, digital media, and other creative industries. In Year 1, Semester 1, students build foundational skills in audio recording, screen design, design fundamentals, image and vector graphics, photography, professional practices, and electronic field production equipment, establishing both creative and technical competencies. Semester 2 advances these skills with digital audio production, audio processing and mixing, lighting, Indigenous cultural awareness, scriptwriting, web development, videography, and video editing, providing a comprehensive introduction to pre-production and production workflows. Year 2 focuses on post-production, project management, and advanced media techniques. Semester 3 emphasizes audio production, story development, web development, production management, effective imagery, video titling and graphics, post-production, and interview techniques. Semester 4 expands into live audio production, motion graphics and visual effects, portrait and product photography, dramatic, corporate, and documentary video production, multi-camera video production, and streaming media, integrating all aspects of the production process. In the final semester, students complete career management training and choose either a client-directed project or a work experience placement, applying their skills in a professional context. Throughout the program, hands-on projects reinforce technical knowledge and creativity, equipping graduates with a strong portfolio, practical experience, and the professional skills necessary to succeed in the rapidly evolving media production industry.
