COURSE CURRICULUM

Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s Graphic Communications diploma program is structured over five semesters to provide a comprehensive blend of creative, technical, and professional skills. In the first semester, students build a strong foundation with courses in Indigenous Cultural Awareness, Design Fundamentals, Image Editing, Print Media, Vector Graphics, Digital Illustration, Digital Page Layout, and Workflow Fundamentals, totaling 25 credits. The second semester continues to develop design and technical expertise through Design 2, Digital Page Layout 3, Campaign 1, Motion Graphics 1, Marketing 1, Career Planning for Creatives 1, Image Compositing, and Photography, also totaling 25 credits. Semester three emphasizes professional and user-focused design skills with Professional Workplace Communication, User Experience Design 1, Design 3, Motion Graphics 2, Editorial Design, Packaging Design, Brand Strategy, and Web Development 1. Semester four integrates entrepreneurship, advanced UX, career planning, campaigns, project management, marketing, and culminates in a Capstone Project, preparing students for real-world application. The fifth semester is a full work experience placement, allowing students to apply their knowledge in a professional setting. Across all semesters, students gain proficiency in design software, motion graphics, print and digital media, branding, marketing, UX/UI, and project management, while developing adaptability, creative problem-solving, and communication skills. This carefully sequenced program ensures graduates are ready for dynamic careers in graphic communications and design industries.
