COURSE CURRICULUM

The Commercial Pilot diploma program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic combines comprehensive ground school instruction with extensive hands-on flight training, preparing students for a career as professional pilots. In the first semester, students begin with Private Pilot License training, solo and dual flying, instruments, navigation, and foundational commercial flight training, totaling 25 credits and providing a solid base in aviation principles and practical flight skills. The second semester focuses on advanced theoretical knowledge, including navigation, meteorology, flight operations, Canadian aviation regulations, aircraft engines and instruments, mathematics, physics, and professional communication, while also incorporating Indigenous cultural awareness, totaling 25 credits. Students then apply their skills in a paid Private Pilot work term, gaining practical industry experience. The third semester builds on theory and advanced flight operations, covering topics such as advanced aircraft types, aviation business, electronics and avionics, human factors and crew resource management, instrument flying, and theory of flight, equipping students with both technical and operational knowledge. In the fourth semester, students complete Commercial Flight Training, solo navigation, multi-engine and instrument ratings, individual aircraft type ratings, and prepare for their Commercial Pilot License exams, culminating in 25 credits of integrated theory and practice. A final paid Commercial Pilot work term provides professional experience, ensuring graduates leave the program ready to meet industry demands with a Commercial Pilot Licence and multi-engine or instrument rating.
