COURSE CURRICULUM

The Chemical Technology diploma program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic provides a comprehensive two-year curriculum designed to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills needed for careers in laboratory and chemical industries. In the first semester, students build a foundation in organic and general chemistry, analytical instrumentation, mathematics, statistics, laboratory safety, and Excel, totaling 25 credits. The second semester continues with advanced organic and general chemistry, plant and process chemistry, analytical instrumentation, mathematics, and physics, also totaling 25 credits. Semester three emphasizes nuclear chemistry, sampling techniques, applied laboratory safety, Indigenous cultural awareness, and statistics, providing 11 credits of specialized study. In semester four, students focus on analytical and physical chemistry, instrumentation, laboratory preparation techniques, quality control in laboratories, and workplace communication, completing 25 credits. The final semester combines physical and water chemistry, environmental monitoring, analytical instrumentation, scientific communication, and applied research, including an industry-applied research component, totaling 20 credits. Across the program, students gain hands-on experience in labs, applying theoretical principles to real-world chemical analysis, instrumentation, and quality control processes. Emphasis on applied research, safety protocols, and communication ensures graduates are well-prepared to enter diverse roles in analytical testing, environmental monitoring, quality assurance, and other laboratory-focused careers, with the practical experience to succeed immediately in professional settings.
