COURSE CURRICULUM

The Water Resources option in the Civil Engineering Technologies diploma at Saskatchewan Polytechnic focuses on preparing students for careers in water management, environmental engineering, and municipal infrastructure. Building on the foundational skills from the first two semesters, students develop expertise in hydraulics, groundwater technology, and water/wastewater treatment processes. They study engineering chemistry and instrumentation, gaining practical lab experience in water and wastewater analysis, while applying regulatory guidelines and industry standards to design components of treatment plants. Environmental engineering and watershed management courses emphasize sustainable practices and the protection of water resources, while hydrology courses cover the collection and analysis of meteorological and hydrometric data, river and reservoir engineering, and water supply management. Students also develop project management, construction contracts, and municipal infrastructure skills, preparing them to plan, execute, and oversee water-related projects effectively. Field camps provide hands-on experience, allowing students to apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings, while cooperative work terms enable them to gain practical industry experience. The capstone project integrates learning from all semesters, demonstrating students’ ability to analyze, design, and manage complex water resources projects. Graduates of this program are equipped to pursue careers in water supply, flood and drought management, environmental consulting, and municipal engineering, combining technical expertise with applied problem-solving and leadership skills.
