COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computer Networking Technician certificate program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic is an intensive, hands-on program designed to prepare students for careers in IT and networking in less than a year. The program spans three semesters, totaling 56 credits, and emphasizes practical skills in installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing computer networking systems. In the first semester, students build foundational knowledge with courses in A+ Cisco IT Essentials 1 and 2, CISCO Network Associate 1A and 1B, CISCO Network Associate 2A, Programming with Python, and Introduction to Indigenous Studies, totaling 25 credits. This semester focuses on developing core technical competencies, including basic networking, hardware, and programming skills. The second semester deepens networking and IT expertise through Managing Modern Desktops, CISCO Network Associate 2B and 3A and 3B, LINUX+, Windows Server Administration, and Communications for Technicians, also totaling 25 credits, with an emphasis on real-world applications, network configuration, system administration, and security fundamentals. The third semester provides advanced training in CCNA Cybersecurity Operations and Information Technology Project Management, totaling 6 credits, preparing students for secure network management and professional IT project execution. Across all semesters, students gain hands-on experience with Cisco routers and switches, desktop PCs, and small business servers, allowing them to build and maintain complex networked systems. Graduates are equipped to work as networking technicians, systems administrators, IT support specialists, or cybersecurity operations professionals.
