COURSE CURRICULUM

Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s Industrial Mechanics certificate program provides students with a comprehensive foundation in installing, maintaining, repairing, and overhauling stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment. This one-year, full-time program, offered at the Prince Albert, Regina, and Saskatoon campuses, emphasizes practical, hands-on learning in well-equipped shops under the guidance of experienced instructors. Students gain expertise in fundamental communication skills, drafting and blueprint reading, and trade mathematics, which form the basis for understanding complex industrial systems. Training includes hydraulics, pneumatics and compressors, belts, chains, shafts, gears, couplings, clutches, brakes, bearings, lubrication, seals, gaskets, and pumps and pipe fitting. Students also develop proficiency in machine installation and shaft alignment, rigging, hoisting, lifting, and safety procedures. Practical skills are further enhanced through the use of various machine tools, hand tools, power tools, and welding processes, including oxy-fuel cutting, gas metal arc welding (GMAW), and shielded metal arc welding (SMAW). The program incorporates work experience, allowing students to apply their knowledge in real-world settings and develop problem-solving abilities relevant to industry demands. Graduates leave the program prepared to enter high-demand careers as industrial mechanics or millwrights across sectors such as oil and gas, mining, manufacturing, milling, power generation, and chemical plants, equipped with technical competence, safety awareness, and hands-on experience.
