COURSE CURRICULUM

The Agricultural Equipment Technician certificate program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic is a comprehensive one-year, full-time program totaling 66 credits, designed to provide students with the technical skills and practical experience needed to excel in modern agricultural machinery maintenance and repair. The curriculum covers air conditioning and heating systems, electrical basics, and electrical systems operations, as well as engine fundamentals, fuel systems, overhaul, assembly, and assessment. Students gain hands-on training with seeding and tillage equipment, harvesting machinery, hay and forage equipment, sprayers and applicators, and tractor pre-delivery and performance procedures. Precision farming operations and GPS technologies are incorporated to reflect the growing role of digital systems in agriculture. The program also emphasizes hydraulics through instruction in pumps, valves, and flow controls, and provides in-depth training in primary driveline components, clutch drive systems, differentials, and final drives. Welding skills, including oxy-fuel, plasma arc, and shielded metal arc welding, are included, along with trade mathematics, essential job skills, and safe shop and machine operation practices. A dealership work experience component allows students to apply their learning in real-world settings. By combining theoretical knowledge with extensive hands-on training, the program prepares graduates to diagnose, repair, modify, and maintain a wide range of agricultural machinery, ensuring they are job-ready and equipped to work in dealerships, on farms, or in related industries such as construction and mining.
