COURSE CURRICULUM

The one-year Undergraduate Certificate in Social Sciences at RRU’s Langford campus provides students with a comprehensive foundation in understanding and addressing the social, cultural, and environmental challenges shaping our world. In the first term, students engage in courses such as Global Studies, Indigenous Studies: Introduction, Trajectory, and New Directions, Relational Leadership in Action, Social, Economic and Environmental Sustainability, and Writing and Critical Thinking, complemented by an online Introduction to Academic Integrity course. These courses develop critical thinking, communication, and leadership skills while fostering an understanding of global and local social dynamics. In the second term, students build on this foundation with courses including Canadian Studies, Communication, Media and Culture Foundations, Fundamentals of Applied Social Science Research Methods for Changemaking, and Human Rights and Justice. Students also select one elective, with options such as Social Entrepreneurship, History of Science and Environmental Thought, Human Geography, or Introduction to Marketing, allowing them to explore their individual interests and connect theory to real-world applications. Through small classes, interactive learning, and challenge-based projects, this program equips students with the analytical, collaborative, and practical skills necessary for further academic study or meaningful contributions in professional, community, and social impact contexts, preparing graduates to engage thoughtfully and effectively in diverse social environments.
