COURSE CURRICULUM

The Social Innovation and Community Development (SICD) program offers a comprehensive and flexible curriculum designed to build practical skills in leadership, entrepreneurship, and community development with a strong foundation in Indigenous knowledge and perspectives. In Year 1, students take core courses such as Communication Strategies, Computer Applications for Social Innovation, Indigenous Knowledge and Leadership, and Foundations of Social Innovation, which together establish key concepts in social change and community empowerment. Courses like Financial Literacy and Project Management for Social Innovation and Community Development equip students with tools to manage initiatives effectively. The second term continues to build on this knowledge with courses including Financial Documentation, Communication for Social Innovation, a Social Innovation Capstone project, Applied Economics, and Reconciling Our Economic Futures, a course rooted in economic reconciliation. Students can tailor their studies through a wide selection of electives, which include topics in accounting, business, economics, law, project management, climate change, marketing, and Indigenous language and culture, such as Anishinaabemowin. These electives allow students to specialize in areas that align with their personal goals and interests. The curriculum blends classroom instruction with experiential, project-based learning, preparing students for leadership roles in Indigenous social entrepreneurship or community development, and supporting transformative work in their communities and beyond.
