COURSE CURRICULUM

The Graphic Design diploma program is a comprehensive two-year course that combines artistic training with practical experience to prepare students for careers in the graphic communications industry. In Year 1, Term 1, students begin with foundational courses including Digital Production 1, User Experience Design 1, Design 1, Design History 1, Typography 1, Professional Communications 1, Principles of Drawing 1, and WHMIS safety training, totaling 31 credit hours. These courses introduce essential design principles, typography, drawing skills, user experience basics, and professional communication. Term 2 builds on this foundation with User Experience Design 2, Design 2, Principles of Drawing 2, Industry Research, Digital Production 2, Design History 2, Professional Communications 2, and Typography 2, totaling 29 credit hours. This term focuses on advancing technical skills, design history knowledge, and digital production techniques while encouraging industry research and communication skills. In Year 2, Term 3, students dive deeper into Design Management, Campaign 1, Interaction Design 1, Design 3, Production Techniques 1, Editorial Design 1, Illustration 1, and their first Work Experience placement, totaling 37 credit hours. These courses emphasize managing design projects, creating campaigns, editorial layouts, illustration techniques, and interaction design, providing both theoretical and practical knowledge. Finally, Term 4 includes Design Management 2, Portfolio Presentation, Campaign 2, Interaction Design 2, Production Techniques 2, Design 4, Editorial Design 2, Illustration 2, and a second Work Experience placement, totaling 38 credit hours. This final term focuses on portfolio development, advanced design projects, and real-world work experience to prepare students for professional success. Throughout the program, students refine their creative and technical skills, develop professional communication, and gain industry exposure, graduating with the expertise and confidence needed to thrive in the evolving graphic design field.
