COURSE CURRICULUM

The Automotive Technology program spans two years and is structured to provide a strong foundation in vehicle diagnostics, repair, and maintenance. In Year 1, Term 1, students begin with essential courses such as Basic Electrical (7 credits), Shop Safety and Tools (7 credits), Body and Trim (2 credits), and Engine Mechanical Systems (7 credits), gaining hands-on experience in the fundamentals of automotive systems. Additional courses include Course Introduction (3 credits), Hybrids (2 credits), along with mandatory safety training through WHMIS and General Safety Training (non-credit). In Term 2, the focus shifts to practical systems with courses like Tires, Wheels and Hubs (3 credits), Drive Shafts and Axles (3 credits), Vehicle Maintenance (7 credits), Suspension and Steering (7 credits), and Brakes (7 credits). Students also develop soft skills with Communication Strategies (3 credits) and apply their learning through Work Experience 1 (4 credits). Year 2 continues the advanced technical training. Term 3 includes Introduction to Electronics (7 credits), Engine Management (7 credits), Advanced Brakes (3 credits), Body Electrical and Diagnosis (7 credits), Starting, Charging and Electrical Systems (3 credits), and Communication for Transportation (3 credits). Term 4 focuses on diagnostics and advanced service with Engine Diagnosis and Repair (7 credits), Manual Transmissions and Clutches (5 credits), Wheel Alignment (3 credits), Advanced Vehicle Service (3 credits), Differentials and Drivelines (3 credits), and Advanced Suspension and Steering (5 credits). Students also complete Communication for the Workplace (3 credits), Work Experience 2 (4 credits), and receive Level 2 accreditation through AC-326. This comprehensive curriculum ensures graduates are well-equipped for the automotive industry, with in-depth knowledge of vehicle systems, practical repair experience, and exposure to both traditional and hybrid technologies.
