COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mechanical Engineering Technology program at RRC Polytech combines theoretical knowledge with practical, hands-on learning to prepare students for careers in mechanical design, manufacturing, and engineering problem-solving. In the first year, students build foundational skills through courses in engineering design, materials, mechatronics, physical science, algebra, trigonometry, and electrical/electronic fundamentals, complemented by safety training and co-op work experience, which introduces them to real-world engineering environments. The second year emphasizes applied mechanics, fluid power, instrumentation and control, fabrication methods, thermodynamics, strength of materials, machine and tool design, and computer-aided design, supported by programming and project management courses, while students continue gaining practical experience through co-op placements. In the third year, students integrate their learning through an engineering technology project, applied statistics, and elective courses covering aerospace technology, computer-aided engineering, industrial engineering, industrial process control, enterprise resource planning, noise and vibration control, metallurgy, and advanced air conditioning systems, allowing them to tailor their studies to career interests. The program’s alternating academic and co-op terms ensure students graduate with strong technical skills, practical experience, and professional competencies, making them well-prepared to enter the workforce as adaptable, skilled mechanical engineering technologists capable of contributing effectively to design, production, and manufacturing teams across a variety of industries, with an optional pathway to further studies in mechanical engineering.
