COURSE CURRICULUM

The Instrumentation and Control Engineering Technology program provides students with the advanced technical knowledge and practical skills required to design, operate, and maintain instrumentation and control systems in industrial and manufacturing environments. Throughout the program, students engage with core topics including instrumentation control systems design, process measurements, electrical systems, robotics and automation, heat transfer and thermodynamics, distributed control systems, and industrial communications. The curriculum emphasizes both theoretical understanding and hands-on application, with lab-based learning, simulations, and practical exercises preparing students for real-world challenges. Students also develop expertise in programming and configuring programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and data acquisition systems, while learning project management and engineering reporting skills to support professional practice. Integral to the program are co-op work experiences, which allow students to gain industry exposure, apply classroom learning in practical settings, and build professional networks with employers and industry partners. Elective courses provide opportunities for specialization and exploration of emerging technologies, while apprenticeship-aligned coursework supports Red Seal recognition for Instrumentation and Control Technicians. The program culminates with a final project and technical thesis, enabling students to integrate their learning in a comprehensive applied project. Graduates emerge fully prepared for careers in process automation, instrumentation, control systems, and industrial technology, equipped with both technical proficiency and professional experience.
