COURSE CURRICULUM

The Architectural Technology Diploma program consists of a comprehensive two-year curriculum designed to develop the technical knowledge and practical skills necessary for a career in architecture and building design. In the first year, students begin with foundational courses such as Technical Drawing Fundamentals, Principles of Construction Documentation, Building Materials and Environment, Structural Fundamentals, and Building Mechanical Systems. These courses provide a solid base in understanding how buildings are designed and constructed. Additional courses in communication and mathematics ensure students develop essential workplace and technical application skills. The second term builds on this foundation with subjects like Building Science, Site Assessment, Building Structural Systems, Architectural Drawing 1, and BIM Fundamentals, along with further development in communication strategies. A co-op placement in Term 3 gives students valuable hands-on experience in a real-world setting. In Year 2, students explore more advanced topics such as Codes and Standards, Sustainable Building, Intermediate BIM, and Building Systems Coordination. Term 5 culminates in a Capstone Project where students work in teams to complete a full architectural project, incorporating technical drawings, BIM models, and contract documents while addressing social and environmental considerations. Courses like Contract Administration, Interior Detailing, Advanced BIM, and Project Management ensure graduates are well-versed in industry expectations. The program emphasizes both independent and collaborative work, integrating design theory with practical applications in building systems, construction documentation, and sustainable practices. By the end of the program, students are prepared to contribute to architectural firms, engineering teams, or pursue further studies in the built environment, equipped with the tools to produce professional-grade architectural documents and manage various phases of construction projects.
