COURSE CURRICULUM

The Human Resource Management program provides students with a comprehensive foundation in HR principles, practices and professional skills. In Year 1, Term 1, courses such as Labour Relations, Compensation, Human Behaviour in Organizations, Training and Development, and Recruitment and Selection introduce learners to key aspects of workforce management, organizational behaviour, employee development and staffing strategies. The Human Resource Management practicum offers 40 hours of practical experience, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings. Elective courses provide opportunities for further specialization, covering topics such as Collective Bargaining, Organizational Development, Payroll and Taxable Benefits, Employment and Labour Law, HR Metrics and Analytics, Strategic HR Planning, Issues and Trends in HRM, Computerized HRM, and Ethical Issues in HRM. Additional management-focused courses like Assertiveness Training and Management Principles 1 support the development of leadership, communication and decision-making skills, while Occupational Safety and Health ensures understanding of workplace safety requirements. Shorter seminar-style courses cover critical topics including Grievance Handling, Negotiating Skills, Managing Change, Employment Equity, Competency Profiling, Employment Diversity, Indigenous Staffing Strategies, Building Workplace Loyalty, and Making Tough Decisions, providing practical insights into contemporary HR challenges. Together, these courses combine theoretical knowledge, applied learning and professional development, preparing graduates to contribute effectively in human resource management roles across diverse organizational environments.
