COURSE CURRICULUM
The Welding program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to develop the skills and knowledge needed for a career in welding through hands-on practical experience and theoretical learning. In the first term, students begin with foundational courses such as Communication Strategies, Interpreting Engineering Drawings, and Mathematics for Manufacturing, which support technical understanding and workplace communication. Safety is emphasized with WHMIS and General Safety Training courses. Practical welding skills are introduced through courses like Introduction to Gas Metal Arc Welding, Introduction to Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Safety, Hand and Power Tools, and Oxy Fuel Welding and Cutting. These courses provide essential knowledge in different welding techniques and the safe use of tools. In the second term, students advance their skills with Advanced Gas Metal Arc Welding and Advanced Shielded Metal Arc Welding, along with an introduction to Gas Tungsten Metal Arc Welding and Fabrication Processes. Science for Manufacturing enhances their technical background, and the Work to Learn as a Welder course supports practical skill development. Elective options include Introduction to Non-Destructive Testing and Advanced Gas Tungsten Metal Arc Welding, allowing students to specialize further. The third term includes an Accreditation Level 1 course and a Work Experience placement, providing real-world industry exposure to consolidate learning. Throughout the program, students are evaluated through theory tests and practical assignments graded to industry and government standards. Graduates leave prepared for certification and employment, with opportunities to pursue Canadian Welding Bureau certification in key welding processes. The program’s blend of theory, practical skills, and work experience ensures students are well-prepared to enter the welding profession confidently and competently.
