COURSE CURRICULUM

The Social Innovation and Community Development program at RRC Polytech provides students with the knowledge, skills, and applied experience necessary to drive positive change in urban, rural, local, and global contexts, with a focus on socio-economic development, environmental sustainability, and community engagement. In Year 1, Term 1, students build foundational skills in communication, technology, financial literacy, and project management through courses such as Communication Strategies, Computer Applications for Social Innovation, Financial Literacy, and Project Management for Social Innovation and Community Development. They also explore Indigenous knowledge, leadership, and the principles of social innovation through dedicated courses, fostering culturally informed and ethically responsible approaches. In Term 2, learners advance their skills in applied economics, financial documentation, communication for social innovation, and complete the Social Innovation Capstone project, which integrates practical experience with theoretical understanding. Elective options allow students to tailor their learning in areas such as climate change, conflict resolution, business law, accounting, human resources, marketing, and Indigenous language and culture, providing interdisciplinary expertise and versatility. By combining classroom instruction, applied projects, and experiential learning, the program equips graduates with critical thinking, problem-solving, project management, and collaboration skills, enabling them to engage effectively with communities, social enterprises, government agencies, and Indigenous organizations, and to contribute meaningfully to sustainable development and social innovation initiatives.
