COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1, Term 1, students begin with foundational courses such as Careers and Trends in Biotechnology, Pharma and Food, which introduces industry insights and future directions. Fundamental Lab Skills and Instrumentation and Equipment provide essential hands-on experience and technical knowledge of the tools and machines used in manufacturing processes. Measurements, Calculations and Physics Principles build a solid understanding of the scientific and mathematical concepts crucial for precise production work, while Communication Strategies develop the ability to effectively convey information in professional settings. Introduction to Quality and Compliance is a key course that emphasizes the regulatory standards and quality assurance practices vital in these highly regulated industries. In Term 2, students continue to build their communication skills with Communication for the Workplace and deepen their technical expertise through Applied Microbiology, which explores microbial processes important in both pharmaceutical and food production. Tooling and Machinery in Fabrication focuses on the operation and maintenance of production equipment. Solid Dosage Production and Bioprocessing Pharmaceutical Production are core courses that provide detailed knowledge and hands-on experience in producing various pharmaceutical products such as tablets, capsules, and biopharmaceuticals like vaccines and antibiotics. Food Processing introduces methods and standards specific to food manufacturing environments.
