COURSE CURRICULUM

The Occupational Health & Safety program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare students for careers focused on creating and maintaining safe work environments across various industries. In Year 1, students study a broad range of courses that collectively provide a deep understanding of occupational health and safety practices. Key topics include Hazard Recognition, Evaluation & Control, Risk Management, Safety Audits & Analysis, and OHS Documentation & Reporting, all of which equip students with practical skills for identifying hazards and implementing effective safety measures. Courses such as OHS – Environmental Issues and OHS – Hygiene address environmental health risks and workplace exposure control, while Ergonomics – Intro and OHS – Health explore how workplace design and health factors impact employee well-being. Students also study Ethical & Legal Issues in OHS to understand regulatory compliance and workplace responsibilities, as well as Program Development and Managing OHS to build the skills required to lead and implement safety initiatives. Project Management: Fundamentals and OHS Information Management help students develop administrative and organizational capabilities crucial for coordinating safety programs. The curriculum also includes OHS Training – Intro to teach strategies for effective workplace safety education. The program culminates in a Workplace Experience course, offering students six credit hours of hands-on training in a real-world setting to apply their classroom learning. Throughout the program, students engage in interdisciplinary learning that fosters critical thinking, technical competence, and a proactive approach to workplace safety. Graduates are well-prepared to pursue roles such as safety officers, coordinators, or specialists in industries where occupational health and safety are essential.
