COURSE CURRICULUM

The Network Services Technician program is a comprehensive course designed to prepare individuals with little or no IT background for entry-level roles in the Information Technology field. In Year 1, Term 1, students begin with foundational subjects such as Report Writing and general safety training including WHMIS and General Safety. Technical courses introduce essential operating systems and hardware skills with Linux - Client, Windows - Client, and A-Plus Hardware and Software, which covers PC hardware support and troubleshooting aligned with A+ certification standards. Students also develop a strong understanding of physical network infrastructure through Cabling Systems and Network Infrastructure 1, followed by more advanced concepts in Network Infrastructure 2a. Term 2 expands into more specialized areas, starting with Fundamentals of Voice Over IP, which introduces Cisco Communication Manager Express and VoIP technologies. Wireless LAN Fundamentals focuses on wireless network design and configuration using Cisco Access Points. Server and Network Infrastructure Principles build on the skills needed for managing network services, while Linux - Server extends students' abilities in open-source server environments. Advanced networking knowledge is reinforced in Network Infrastructure 2b and 3, where learners work with complex networking configurations, protocols, and topologies, aligned with Cisco CCNA training. The program blends theoretical instruction with practical lab-based learning, offering a solid understanding of both client and server systems, network hardware, and communication protocols. By the end of the program, students are well-prepared for junior roles in corporate IT departments or SOHO environments, including positions such as help desk technician, network support technician, or junior network administrator. With exposure to Microsoft and Linux platforms, Cisco technologies, wireless networking, VoIP, and PC hardware, graduates gain the versatility and foundational knowledge needed to enter the IT workforce and continue developing more specialized skills in their future careers.
