COURSE CURRICULUM

The Marine and Powersports Technician program is a practical, hands-on training course designed to prepare students for entry-level roles or apprenticeships in the marine and powersports industry. In Year 1, Term 1, students begin with essential foundational courses such as Communication Strategies, Math, and Science, alongside safety training in WHMIS, General Safety, and Shop Safety and Tools. Technical training includes Product Familiarization and Trade Related Documents, Unit Assembly and Seasonal Storage, Electrical Foundations, Engine Fundamentals, and Electrical Systems, providing a strong base in diagnostics and mechanical systems. Term 2 advances technical skills with specialized courses like Fuel Systems, Primary Drives, Suspension, Steering and Brakes, and Wheels, Tires and Equipment Maintenance. These courses focus on maintaining and repairing a range of vehicles and equipment including motorcycles, snowmobiles, ATVs, side-by-sides, outboard motors, and lawn and garden machines. Students can choose from a variety of electives tailored to specific interests such as Service Advisor, Advanced Engine Repair, Diesel Engine Overhaul, Engine Management, Powersports Performance and Tuning, or Lawn and Garden Equipment. In Term 3, students complete ACCR-9003 accreditation for Level 1 and participate in a Field Experience placement, gaining real-world experience in the industry. The program emphasizes hands-on training, conducted at RRC Polytech’s Vehicle Technology and Research Centre, with access to the latest equipment and resources, thanks to partnerships with Yamaha and Polaris. Students also have the opportunity to earn Bronze Level endorsements from the Yamaha Technical Academy and the University of Polaris, further enhancing employment prospects. By the end of the program, graduates are equipped with the knowledge and experience required to work in dealerships, marinas, golf courses, rental agencies, government services, or independent repair shops. The combination of theoretical learning, practical shop work, and industry exposure prepares students for success in the marine and powersports field.
