COURSE CURRICULUM

The CNC Machinist and General Machinist program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the skills needed to excel in machining and manufacturing industries. In the first term, students focus on foundational skills such as communication strategies, milling and lathe machine operations, interpreting engineering drawings, mathematics for manufacturing, machine shop tools and safety, and science for manufacturing. Safety training and WHMIS certification are also integral parts of this term to ensure students are well-prepared for a safe working environment. The second term builds on these skills with an introduction to CNC machines, quality inspection techniques including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD\&T) and coordinate measuring machines (CMM), and CAD fundamentals. Students also learn CNC manual programming, lean manufacturing principles, and hands-on operation of CNC machining and turning centers. Accreditation for Machinist Theory Level 1 is included to enhance credentials. Elective courses such as plastics manufacturing, non-destructive testing, and welding (VR, gas, and MIG) offer students the chance to expand their skill set further. This combination of theory and practical training prepares graduates to set up and operate manual and CNC machines safely and efficiently, interpret technical drawings, and perform quality inspections. With this strong foundation, graduates are ready for careers as CNC operators or machinist apprentices in diverse industries including aerospace, medical research, general manufacturing, repair, mining, transportation manufacturing, and research and development, making the program an excellent stepping stone into the machining field.
