COURSE CURRICULUM

The Construction Management program’s first year provides a solid foundation in technical, mathematical and professional skills essential for a career in the construction industry. In Term 1, students develop core competencies through courses such as Algebra & Trigonometry and Statics, which strengthen analytical and problem-solving abilities, while Construction Graphics and Computer and Communication Fundamentals build proficiency in design representation and digital tools. Construction Safety, along with WHMIS and General Safety Training, emphasizes workplace safety and regulatory compliance, and Surveying 1 introduces fundamental land measurement and site assessment techniques. Term 2 expands technical and industry knowledge with Construction Industry Overview, which provides insight into Canadian construction practices, and Technical Communications, which enhances professional writing and reporting skills. Materials and Methods 1 and Strength of Materials equip learners with an understanding of construction techniques and material properties, while Probability & Statistics supports data-driven decision-making, and Surveying 2 further develops practical surveying skills. Term 3 culminates in a nine-credit Co-op Work Placement, offering hands-on, real-world experience where students apply their learning in professional environments, gain exposure to industry practices, and develop essential workplace competencies. Together, these courses combine theoretical knowledge, technical skills and practical experience, preparing students to contribute effectively to construction projects and advance in the field.
