COURSE CURRICULUM

The Construction Management program is a comprehensive, multi-year curriculum designed to equip students with the technical, managerial, and leadership skills needed for success in various construction sectors, including heavy, industrial, commercial, and residential projects. In Year 1, students build foundational knowledge through courses like Algebra & Trigonometry, Construction Graphics, Statics, Construction Safety, Surveying, and essential safety training such as WHMIS and General Safety. The second term focuses on industry overview, technical communications, materials and methods, probability and statistics, strength of materials, and advanced surveying, concluding with a nine-credit co-op work placement that offers practical industry experience. Year 2 advances with courses in report writing, environmental management, infrastructure design, structural analysis, project management, and electives covering materials, heavy construction, and structural design. Students continue experiential learning with another co-op placement. Year 3 emphasizes construction planning, human behavior in organizations, quantity surveying, construction law, and leadership principles, along with electives like Building Green and Building Information Modeling (BIM), followed by a third co-op placement. The final year features applied research projects as capstone courses, engineering economics, inspection, managerial communication, quality control, and specialized electives including labor relations, workplace diversity, jobsite management, and risk management. Students explore environmental issues in construction, human resource management, and water and wastewater systems, with options for international construction and energy codes. This program blends theory, practical application, and work experience to prepare graduates for diverse construction management roles and professional certifications, providing a solid foundation for leadership and innovation in the construction industry.
